The passenger port “APOSTOLOS PAVLOS” is surrounded by the city and until 2002 it was the central point of maritime transport in the wider region of Kavala. In October 2002 the freight transport was moved to the Port “Filippos B” and the central port is now used:
- for the transport of passengers, with daily ferry routes to and from Thassos and regular routes to Limnos, Mytilene, Chios and Samos
- for tourism, since cruise ships and pleasure yachts reach the central port of Kavala
- for the fishing fleet, used as fishing reserve
- for nautical sports
The central port has a total platform length of 1,950m and depth of 4m to 10m.
